8 days to go: Marcel Desailly’s unbeaten record

(FIFA.com)

Marcel Desailly captained his country to two Confederations Cup titles in 2001 and 2003, playing in eight games without ever tasting defeat.

The world and European champion only missed one match in 2001, when *Les Bleus *coach Roger Lemerre decided to rotate his line-up, so he did not feature in France’s only loss of that tournament to Australia. The reigning champions won five out of five as they successfully defended their title on home soil two years later, with Desailly leading the team out in four of those games.

Desailly won numerous trophies in a 116-cap career for the national team and scored three goals, one of which was the winner in the Confederations Cup semi-final win against Brazil in 2001.
