The Best leaves its legacy at Clapham Common

Clapham Common

A new Era

Located in south London, Clapham Common is 89 hectares of park where the community gathers to play football every weekend.

The Greater London Women's League advised that

women should no longer play there.

As part of the Legacy of The Best, FIFA are investing to refurbish the dressing rooms and build a separate and exclusive one for women.

We have to respect football at all its levels. It’s not about helping here or donating it’s about actually understanding that these girls here, they love football like we do.

FIFA Deputy Secretary General Zvonimir Boban

The event took place on Saturday 22 September as part of a joint activity with FIFA and the FA, with FIFA Legends and the local community in attendance.

Six FIFA Legends

Laura Georges, Nwankwo Kanu, Mark Schwarzer, Gilberto Silva and Rachel Yankey

all took part in a game, too!

The other thing that’s really important is that we want to get as many women playing as men and at the moment the facilities just aren’t set up for that.
